How to take deposits for appointments
A deposit can reduce the amount a client pays at booking while giving both sides a clear commitment. The key is to explain the amount, remaining balance, and cancellation terms before a client confirms.
Decide what the deposit is for
Choose a deposit that meaningfully reserves the time without making the remaining balance unclear. Consider the session price, preparation time, and how much notice you need to refill a cancelled appointment. Set and communicate your own cancellation, rescheduling, and refund terms; a payment schedule does not determine whether a deposit is refundable.
Make the balance and due date explicit
Show the full appointment price, the amount due at booking, and when the remaining balance will be collected. Make sure your booking terms explain what happens if either side needs to change the appointment. Avoid describing a deposit as refundable or non-refundable unless that matches your actual policy and applicable law.
Set up a deposit package
In Jade, create a pricing package for the appointment and choose the deposit plan. Enter the amount collected at checkout and the full package total, then review the resulting balance schedule. Test the client checkout and the payment-plan view before sharing the booking page.
Review payments and follow up
Use the payment-plan tools to see what has been paid and what remains due. If a scheduled payment fails, review the failure and contact the client using your usual process. Keep your written policy consistent across the booking page, confirmation messages, and any client agreement.
Common questions
- Can I take a deposit for an appointment?
- Jade supports deposit pricing packages for offerings. Configure the amount due at checkout and the total package price, then test the booking flow before publishing.
- Does taking a deposit make it non-refundable?
- No. The deposit schedule does not set your refund or cancellation policy. State your policy clearly and follow applicable law.
- Can clients see the remaining amount?
- The payment plan records the amount paid and remaining installments. Review the public checkout and client payment-plan view to confirm the details are clear for your package.
